Point-of-sale terminal

The point-of-sale terminals are placed in the outlets for printing bills for the various products purchased. Usually, a user/operator inputs the item description and the corresponding prices of the sold articles into the terminal. The terminal displays the input data and prints an itemized bill including the total amount, discount, taxes, etc. Certain outlets use bar codes to identify the details about the product sold. Bar codes are data represented in the form of light and dark shades of bars. To facilitate this, each item should be given a unique code called the Universal Product Code (UPC).The bars are decoded by a device called optical character reader (OCR). The patterns decoded are converted into electrical pulses and transmitted to logical circuits that can be recognized by the processor.

Importance of Power Supply

The only thing that cannot be transmitted over space is power. You don’t have a wireless battery in existence. You just have wireless device which operates on portable batteries. For any device to operate you need a power supply to power them. Power supplies can be wired or wireless. Wired supply means that the device is not movable example LAN line phones. Wireless refer that the device is portable example Cell phones. From this discussion it is clear that power supply is needed for both wired and wireless connections. It is not enough if you just provide power supplies to your circuits. You should provide power which feeds the system with right voltage and current. Excess of anything may damage your device and insufficient may lead to wrong operation. For example when you are doing a project on robot then providing right amount of voltage and current according to the weight you load ion the robot s very important. When the current needed for the circuit to perform perfectly is not supplied then motor s may not run even though they receives the signal. Therefore giving right amount of power is absolutely necessary to get the desired output.

How to beat a bad mood

Moods, say the experts, are emotions that tend to become fixed, influencing one’s outlook for hours, days or even weeks. That’s great if your mood is a pleasant one, but a problem if you are sad, anxious, angry or simply lethargic. Perhaps the best way to deal with such moods is to talk them out; sometimes, though, there is no one to listen. Modern pharmacology offers an abundance of tranquillizers, anti-depressant and anti-anxiety drugs. What many people don’t realize, however, is that scientists have discovered the effectiveness of several non-drugs approaches to pry you loose from an unwanted mood. These can be as good as prescription drugs and have the added benefit of being non-toxic and non-addictive. So, in moments of bad moods try one of these antidotes instead of rushing to the chemists. Aerobic exercises such as running, cycling, brisk walking, swimming or other repetitive activities that boost the heart beat rate, increase circulation of blood and improve the body’s utilization of oxygen. If you avoid being critical of yourself and think positive thoughts, you’re actually more likely to feel happy. It is important to lift oneself out of one’s own self-defeating mood and to take an interest in someone else.

Export Pricing

Pricing decisions play an important role in the marketing of any product in the export market because it is major factor influencing a firm’s total revenue from exports and the profitability. However, there is no simple mathematical formula that is available for an international marketing firm in arriving at the right pricing decision. Cost-price relationship is important but always costs do not determine prices. On the contrary, prices determine the costs that may be injured. The product is tailored according to the requirements of potential consumers and their capacity to pay for it. Cost does not determine prices but indicates whether the product in question can be profitably produced or not. Cost is only an indicator of the price which should be fixed after taking the demand and competitive situation. All the three factors, demand, competition, cost are applicable to export pricing. Cost and supply conditions determine the maximum price he can fix for his commodity. Many other factors like social, economic, political and marketing, product attributes influence the decision especially in international marketing.

Notepad and WordPad

Notepad is used for viewing or editing unformatted text files, such as small HTML or “read me” files. Because Notepad stores files in text format, almost all word processing programs can open Notepad’s files. Open Notepad by clicking the start button, selecting programs, selecting Accessories, and then selecting Notepad. Type and edit text as desired. We must press Enter at the end of each line. Pull down the file menu and select Save to name and save the file.
WordPad is the accessory word processor that comes with Windows. It has more features than Notepad, including some rudimentary text formatting features. It also allows us to open larger documents than does notepad. Open WordPad by clicking the start button, selecting Programs, selecting Accessories, and then selecting WordPad. WordPad opens with a new document. We can begin typing in the new document or open an existing document by pulling down the File menu and selecting Open. Pull down the file menu and select Save to name and save the file. We can work on only one document at a time in WordPad. If we open another document the displayed document closes. If we haven’t saved changes, WordPad prompts us to save the changes.

Real Time Difficulties

When you work in a real time project, you will surely learn many small things. There are certain ideas which can be learnt only while working in real time projects. You start your project by simulating and you slowly move on to next stage that is converting your simulated output into a real time output which can be used as application. Let us take an example of image processing color detection, stream of video signals are received by the computer using some particular software, then you store a single frame by taking a snap shot of the incoming video signal. After performing all this you work with your stored image and you get perfect output, now when you run this program for a real time video signal using Matlab then you won’t get the desired output. You are using same camera and same software for processing. It is working with the stored image from that camera and not with stream of videos? Why is that so? These are the real time problems, when you deeply analyze you can find that, while you take the snap shot of the video and store the image, software which you use is actually performing certain conversions in your image and then storing it, therefore while you analyze using this you are getting perfect output. When you directly input video and take snap shots using Matlab, Matlab is not actually doing those conversions which that software does. This is the main problem and it can be rectified by writing that conversion code in Matlab. So, friend’s real time projects are exciting and challenging, try to take up those projects and learn many new things.

A Game of no chance

Playing chess involves the exercise of the creative and logical faculties. The player strategizes moves by exercising creativity while calculating and planning are functions of reasoning. A game of no chance gives room for the heart as in life with the only difference being that there is nothing ever to lose in chess but only the game. Even if you have lost the game you have learnt to balance both the hemispheres of your brain. Apart from playing in competitions it opens the human mind to doors of possibilities. Critics feel that it favours the mind more than the heart but little do they understand the fact that the heart triggers a spark that drives you into making mind boggling moves. You will in all likelihood play life more tactfully after a game of chess. It is a game of possibilities and not so much of chance.

Global warming – satellite launch

Recently the launch of a satellite introduced by National Aeronautics and Space Administration was scheduled. This satellite was designed to track carbon dioxide emissions worldwide. This observatory was NASA’s first attempt in trying out the design of carbon monitoring satellite on a global scale. Data collected from the $280 million mission were eagerly expected to improve the climate models. It could also help researchers to determine where the greenhouse gas is coming from and how much is being absorbed by the forest and oceans. This is mainly designed for environment protection. But unfortunately there were some technical problem while launching this satellite. This error actually happened shortly after its pre-dawn takeoff. The actual problem was that the payload fairing failed to separate properly from the spacecraft after it left the atmosphere. Thus because of the unsuccessful launch the NASA scientists felt that it would be better to plan the launch after some more modifications. The proper launch is expected to take place very shortly
